Detroit, Michigan USA - 30 January 2019 - As polar cold air swept the U.S. midwest, a low temperature record was broken in Detroit even before the sun set over the ice-choked Detroit River. At sunset, the temperature was -7F (-22C). The overnight low was expected to reach -16F (-27C).
