Description

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Hawaii - The blossoms of the Ohi'a tree, or Ohi'a Lehua (Metrosideros polymorpha), on a lava flow from the Kilauea volcano. The Ohi'a is endemic to Hawai'i, and is usually the first plant to grow on new lava. A newly-identified fungal disease, Rapid Ohiʻa Death, threatens the trees on Hawai's Big Island.
