Description

Douglas, Arizona - A cross marks the spot where an undocumented immigrant, Carmelo Cruz Marcos, was shot and killed by a U.S. Border Patrol agent in February 2022. Cruz, 31, was hoping to find work in the United States to support his three young children in Mexico. The Border Patrol agent said there was a struggle and that he shot Cruz because he feared for his life. Members of the School Sisters of Notre Dame have planted crosses across the region to remember the thousands of migrants who have died crossing the border.
